The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that commenced in over 500 centres nationwide yesterday, was marred by a failing server.

The examination that was scheduled to commence at 11am did not commence in many centres in Lagos until about 12 noon due to the late arrival of some candidates

In an interview with newsmen, Lagos State Coordinator of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr. Mrs Bitrus Okorie stated that the examination was held in 53 centres in the state.

A candidate and student of Marywood Secondary School, Yaba, Chinyere Queen complained about the server, but adjudged the conduct of the examination at the Shoms International School as fair

She advised JAMB authority to guide against overcrowding of CBT halls and guide against greed driven request by centre owners.

At the time of commencement a total of 196 of the 200 allocated to the centre were already accredited and writing the examination.

However, two of the six candidates for the centre arrived late at about 12.22pm.

At the Yaba College of Technology and another Accredited CBT Centre in Ilupeju 180 and 300 candidates were duly accredited without hitch for the examination.

Also, Joy Ohazurike, student from the Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba wants JAMB to look into issues of faulty counters provided for candidates by CBT owners.

“The centre was good except for occasional offline challenge some of my colleagues experienced while the examination lasted. However, Mrs. Eke Uwazurike enjoined authority of the examination board to reconsider early timing of six o’clock for commencement of examination, saying it posed a great danger for candidates from far-flung areas.

It was learnt at the end of the examination at Shoms International School at 2 in the afternoon, that two candidates failed to turn up for the exercise.

Centre Supervisor, Alhaji Waheed Ajetutunmobi explained that the affected candidates may have secured admission in other institutions before the conduct of the examination.
